Book Slam East @ St John on Bethnal Green
200 Cambridge Heath Rd
London
E2 9PA
Time: 7pm til lateish
Damage: £10
Omies, palones and those of other persuasion, Book Slam is back and lit like a vogue in the dilly munge!
Ever celebrating the mystery of language to say nothing of the arts oratorical, we welcome some of the finest communicators currently communicating. These include our old mucker RICHARD MILWARD, saluting the publication of his new novel Man-Eating Typewriter, written partly in Polari and already chosen as a Guardian highlight for 2023.
Add in BENET BRANDRETH, barrister, novelist, rhetoric coach to the RSC, and two-time winner of the World Public Speaking Competition (“one of our nation’s most-accomplished raconteurs,” gushes the Sunday Telegraph) and one can expect a veritable feast linguistic.
Host is award-winning comedian and self-styled knucklehead, FELICITY WARD, while music comes from ROSIE FRATER-TAYLOR whose acclaimed second album, Bloom, blurs the lines between jazz, folk, pop and soul.
So put on your spangliest garb, wax your stroking moustache, and pin back your ears for an evening so decadent it’s practically wearing French knickknacks …
Books on sale courtesy of our friends at the brilliant LIBRERIA.
PLEASE NOTE: DOORS OPEN AT 7PM, BUT WE’LL KICK OFF AT 7.30.
There is an excellent, cheap, cashless bar at the venue but no food. We’re happy to recommend CHIRINGUITO next door, or Paradise Row nearby with SAGER + WILDE, BOOM BAP BURGER and AREPA & CO.
Guess who’s back?
