Book Slam Your Way to Happiness
@ Central Foundation Boys’ School
Cowper Street
London
EC2A 4SH

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.45pm start.

In the middle-aged fashion of a dad in Spanx, the emotional equivalent of a combover, Book Slam’s returning to school to remember what makes us happy.

Our head teacher is MEIK WIKING, founder of the world’s first Happiness Research Institute and author of global bestsellers The Little Book of Hygge and The Little Book of Lykke and, now, The Art of Making Memories: How to Create and Remember Happy Moments.

Putting us in our place is celebrated architect and broadcaster, MAXWELL HUTCHINSON, explaining how architecture can make us happy, while literature lesons come from JOE DUNTHORNE, award-winning author of Submarine, Wild Abandon and The Adulterants who’ll read from his first full-length poetry collection, O Positive, and writer, comedian and actor PHOEBE WALSH who introduces us to Claire.

The music department’s headed by LAIL ARAD (UK) and JF ROBITAILLE (Canada), fresh from touring more than 100 shows and festivals, from Italy to India, while DJ SAM GRIFFIN takes control of the common room jukebox under strict instructions to play only the most uplifting 45s. The teaching assistant is our poet friend and schoolboy crush, the incomparable FRANCESCA BEARD, for whom we composed the following (to the tune of Land of Hope and Glory) - “Land of soapy water, Ms Beard is having a shower, we’re all looking through the keyhole, considering the nature of power (with specific regard to the objectification of the female form in adolescence which will surely not hold us in good stead for equable relationships in later life).”

Books on sale courtesy of the estimable LIBRERIA.

BOOK SLAM YOUR WAY TO HAPPINESS IS CANCELLED

We’re very sorry indeed but due to unforeseen circumstances we’ve had to cancel this event. Rumours that this is in fact due to an excess of happiness are inaccurate, sadly. All ticket purchases are being refunded. Thank you, as ever, for your ongoing support.
