Book Slam's back at the historic York Hall with an absolutely cracking line-up to celebrate the launch of our old mucker IRVINE WELSH's coruscating new novel, 'The Blade Artist', and the return of one of his most terrifying characters, Francis Begbie … Irvine's joined by friends and fam, including the remarkable Mercury Music Prize-winner SPEECH DEBELLE, granting us a glimpse of her new album 'Tantil Before I Breathe', and the scintillating cabaret performer EMPRESS STAH. Further pertinent words come from literature's friendliest fabulist of filth, JOHN NIVEN, reading from the truly extraordinary 'The Sunshine Cruise Company' and JENNI FAGAN, one of Granta's 2013 list of BOYBN – we're hoping Jenni will introduce us to both her fiction ('The Sunlight Pilgrims' is her new novel) and her poetry ('The Dead Queen Of Bohemia' is her new collection). There’ll also be spoken word from bright new talent, JAMES MASSIAH, and eclectic renaissance man, RIZ AHMED – star of ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’, ‘Nightcrawler’ and the upcoming ‘City Of Tiny Lights’. There’s food from the brilliant Cult Events, books from the capital's best bookshop, Newham Books, and, thanks to our dear friends at Apples and Snakes, all will be stitched together with the fine nib and blunt speech of the amazing SALENA GODDEN.
